The latest file using my serial cable works fine. However, I am unable to use the USB stick to work. It loads properly from my computer, but when it is inserted in the receiver it won't come up on the screen and causes the receiver to keep rebooting. The USB drive is set to FAT. I have tried various options including changing the file name to APP_7710_down, and have powered off the tv and receiver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
This seems to be a USB device issue. The Captain receiver should be ON. Try this, when you put the USB drive in, what do you see? Is the light on the USB drive ON? The USB drive seems to be locking up the receiver. If the light is ON on the USB drive after you put it in, simply pull it out and push it right back in. Then see if you can use the remote to load it. The light on the USB device should be OFF. Are you safely removing the USB stick from the computer? There is a tray icon (lower right part of the toolbar) to click on to safely remove the USB drive to avoid data corruption. Also, the stick needs to be formatted to FAT32. Insert USB in PC, run Windows Explorer, right click USB drive icon, and select Format. You can format it to FAT32 there.

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
HI, I am Captain3831- I am sorry for interupting but I have to correct someone on a comment they said regarding USB sticks.
1. The Captain receivers will only except USB Sticks that have a Fat fileing system and will not except a Fat32 fileing system. 2. The way you know you have a Fat system or a Fat32 system is simple, a fat system is a USB stick with 2 gigs or under and a Fat32 system is a stick with 2 gigs or more. Note: I Buy reasonable USB sticks by Lexar (1 gig ) at Walmart for around $17.00 which last along time. Note: Any one person can store allot of files on a 1 gig stick plus you can errase any unwanted files at will. Note: Always remember to eject stick properly from software on the computer after download because if you just pull it out after download you will cause stick to over heat and not except STB |

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
The usb stick that I used was a 1GB and formatted to FAT, not FAT32. It worked properly on the Captain for a few downloads but then with the 623 file, when inserted in the receiver, the light on the usb stick would start to flash, then go off, but would not show any files on the screen. Since the stick was fairly new & under warranty, I replaced it with a new one which works fine.
As Captain3831 notes above, I may have ejected the stick improperly from the computer & caused it to corrupt. Woodcreeker, thanks for your help and your efforts to assist other members & the speed on getting new files posted. I plan to donate to your site. |

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
Gunner, I also failed to mention it is a good idea to reformat your USB stick before every file insertion with it. If it worked on FAT, then try to reformat it in FAT, and load the one file. I also have read the file should be named APP_7710_down. So, I didn't repeat that, as it looked like you did it before successfuly. But, I also thought I read that it was a FAT32 format, I reread and was wrong. Format USB stick to just plain ol' FAT.
Good catch Captain3831 !!

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
Hello i live in Ontario, i "had" the Viewsat Extreme i bought a Sharp Aquos 1080p so decided to upgrade, a friend of mine told me ok we can buy you a Viewsat 9000 its $595 CND or you can get a captain for $300 and i asked him how's the file support he assured me no wait he guaranteed me tops over night tops 36 hours, i understand we got zappppped a couple of times in a week but where are the captain people with the script writers? i wouldnt of minded paying the extra money, it's a shame the 10's of thousands of people have to go w/o television, and guys( AAAFTA) i am new here maybe last week sometime i joined, i am willing to donate monthly if not bi monthly, but i have downloaded Captain 8000 files 2 times the one version last week then the HDMI version figuring it would work and both didnt for me 8(
I understand you guys(AAAFTA) are waiting for the scripts yourselves but if you get up and running that DONATE TAB you have in the forums will be clicking ALOT more, i am seriously thinking on taking the BURN and eating kraft dinner 3 times a day for a month and buy the Viewsat, or if you could send this post to your friends the "Captain 80000 people) and see what they have to say. Thank you very much for taking the time and reading and or replying to this, just want to know, how many people would donate to the site if the "Captain 8000) files and or others were up and running. Thanks again Gr33k0 |

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
Hello Greeko, I am Captain3831 and I can vouch for this site , I see allot of potential in this site to be the best FTA site out there so please dont be discouraged because the Manufacture of Captain receivers have been getting slow on support to implement new files for Bev Sats which is not AAAFTA fault so if you want a wise investment donate to this site and become part of site that will go far in the near future.

Re: USB stick on Captain 8000 not working
Had the same issue with USB and v623B. Had to use serial cable to update to "C". It reads USB just fine now. This happened once before - around September. bin was "un-finished"...
