Captain is now the FIRST FTA Receiver to have a STABLE Dongle (IKS) solution and the first to have a High Definition receiver working through IKS.

Remember this, you will need this hardware to use the IKS Dongle bin files or else they will not work for you.

Currently the Dongle is working stable on about 220 channels which include all PPV and Adult on both providers. Also, there is one HD channel working on the Captain 8000HD to show that the solution is HD compatible. The rest of the channels will be added shortly!

The Dongle, as you can see in the attached pic, is portable and connects by serial port. It also requires power. (short serial cable and power cable included). Again, Captain has come through for you!

Hi, I am new here but I have to ask because I cannot find it anywhere so far... What is this "dongle" you are talking about and can you post pics of it..? Secondly, I am not sure why you are stating you are the first to use IKS because that has been out for several years and is currently owned - trademark wise - by Nfusion the last I heard... I just need some clarification on what you are stating exactly... I am thinking about buying one of these units but I just visited the "Files" section and it seems like there are alot of bin fixes..? Is this a new product going through it's teething points or is it just down so much that they have to create a new bin fix which appears to be almost weekly...? I am not trying to offend anyone but I need to understand what this box can and cannot do..? For instance, can it pick up DN's HD on 129...? or is this box only good for the Bev system.. Thanks in advance...

Captain was the first receiver to have an IKS system working with an HD receiver.

IKS was around a lot longer than nFusion has been around, and you stated that yourself. nFusion has only been around for a few years, IKS has been around for 10 years or more. nFusion does not own the rights to the initials IKS, and I suppose that is why they changed their initials to SUNS now.

Neosat stopped using the IKS intials, and started using HIKS instead.

The weekly fixes are for stand alone fixes, which means the receiver does not need the IKS server to keep it running. Now, some IKS systems keep the receivers running permantly, meaning they do not release weekly fixes. The bad thing about that is when the server experiences troubles, your receiver goes down. Some of these IKS receivers coders release stand alone fixes, so their users do not tie up their internet connections, or have to wait for the eventual IKS server maintenance downtimes.

The Captain receiver cannot get DN HD. That requires 8psk modulation, and the Captain can only decode QPSK modulation. BEV HD is done in QPSK modulation. There is no upgrade available for a Captain 8psk adapter.

The nFusion Nuvenio NV HD is able to do DN HD over an open web connection. So, for right now, that is the only HD IKS system working for DN, which remember, has been renamed to SUNS.

There are other HD receivers that also work great on DN HD that require a weekly fix to stay running, as they do not have IKS available for them. Most people use those types more frequently, as flashing a file these days with a USB drive takes a minute to do at most. Most file fixes are available in a few hours. Several fixes came out last time before the ECM from DN.

Wow, Thanks Woodcreeker... That was very informative... I appreciate the info about only being able to recive Bev and I can live with that I suppose as soon as I clarify if they have the same or some of the same channels as 129 (not sure if it's 82 or 91)..? My next question then is regarding the whole changeover to Nag3 that I am reading about on several sites.. I have heard everything from a complete blackout coming up here shortly to minimal downtime and I figured I would ask your opinion of the Captain box and where you folks see this going..? Is your box already being tested for N3..? Sincerely....

About the only thing going on yesterday was Nagravision 3 was cracked yesterday by the nFusion Team with their Nuvenio NV HD receiver. That is an IKS system, and they are calling it SUNS now. They ran a test on the NFL package on BEV, and it worked just fine, which is Nagra 3 encrypted. Now, the nFusion guys are going to crack the Eastern Arc, which is DN and uses MPEG 4 only satellite transmissions. After that, they will know they are ready. All the other coding groups will follow suit. A lot of people also worried about the switch from Nagra 1 to Nagra 2, and that was cracked by Blacklist in like 2 weeks flat. I am not worried about the switch, but I would expect some downtimes. Also, when the providers get a handle on the new Nagra 3 encryprtion system, I would also expect another downtime outage again a number of months later after they enable the new Nagra 3 system. They will be able to do some nasty things with keys and timers with that new encryption system.
