Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

They're a decent unit, price and support is hard to beat. 100 to 110 bucks total seems to be the average price. Remote is a little lame, usb loading makes it easy to update. All and all decent unit.

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

I am using a cw700s, and it is great, the exact same as the premium but with extra USB loading, and it comes in black or silver, the premium only comes in sliver

I would recommended it to anyone that wants a good STB

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

Captiveworks are pretty good STB's, the support for these boxes is at the top. Make sure if your buying it used from someone you don't know. Need to make sure it will power up, and has the original factory file installed. I have always been a little skeptical of buying a used STB...

I've not seen anything about this unit having a clone, it is possible that there are, all I can say for sure is I haven't seen them.

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

Hi CaptainK, I have a Pansat250SM and a Captain8000HD and a Viewsat Ultra 2 and finally a CaptiveWorks700 and out of all the units I have I find the CW700 very reliable and fast to get files for .
You won't go wrong with purchasing it as long as you are not being overcharged for it , I would pay no more than $80.00 for it used and that's only if you see it working"Thats my Opinion"

There are no fakes or clones of the CW700. Only the CW600premium had clones but they worked exactly as the original units, they were using the same files, and there was no clone-kill code in the files.

When buying a used unit make sure that you know what you are getting, because if something is wrong with the unit you have no warranty.
I don't know how much the person is selling a used CW700 unit for, but new one is priced around $100.

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

There are confirmed counterfeit models of the CW-700S on the market. As mentioned, there is currently no clone killer code in the any of the bins so they will update just fine ... for now. To avoid getting burned, it is strongly recommended that members purchase their units only from a factory authorized dealer. Some fleabay sellers that claim to be authorized dealers are NOT. Make sure you run a confirmation check for the dealer's authorized status on the CaptiveWorks website before purchasing. For about $25 more, you can get an SV-4000 which I think is a much better value and well worth the extra bucks. Both receivers have comparable support but the SV has the edge when it comes to quality of construction and the overall user experience.

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

For this price, I would buy a Visionsat IV200PLUS, $100 shipped, Ebay. Excellent PVR, easy to set up, good picture quality, comes with 2 remote controls and good support.

Before the only thing that was holding it back was because their coding support was from NorW Group who happened to be slow and unreliable. One week ago they switched to K-box team for support which should improve the bin file support. K-box has gotten their IKS dongle working, hopefully, they can get the dongle working for Visionsat.

The only thing about CW is the support which is second to none except for Viewsat and Sonicview.

I have both CW800S and Visionsat IV200PLUS. I like the Visionsat better. There is a learning curve on the CW products. Unless you have owned another CW receivers, otherwise, you are in for a lot of work to get it working right. The Visionsat is a 15-30 minutes setup because of their wide range of antenna setup parameters.

Re: CaptiveWorks CW 700s Any Good

The only problem with Visionsat is its support, its a little slow, because by the time visionsat is out every other box is already out

I bought my Captive Works 700s USB brand new in a box with stwich+cable for 130$

good price from where I am
