Captiveworks CW-800S Error 20 Help Fix

Problem: I loaded bin 1.94 before 1.93, now the receiver displays error 20 and 0000. I cannot even access the menu to load 1.93. All I get are red lights, nothing on the display.

Here is the solution.

1) Turn off receiver from power switch in the back.
2) Connect RS232 null modem serial cable.
3) Press and hold in power button on front of the receiver, while turning ON power switch on from the back. Keep on holding the front power button until it displays "Boot". You can now let go of the front power button.
4) Double click and run Loader v1.03.
5) Install bin file 1.90 from September 30, 2008.
6) Install bin 1.93 and make sure you read all of the release notes.
7) Be sure your serial number you enter is entered correctly. It is located at the bottom of your receiver on a sticker. Your serial number is also located on the Warranty card. If you have a 10 digit serial number, only enter the first 9 digits, omit the last number.
8) Do a Factory Default
9) Install the v1.95 bin file or the latest file.
10) Set everything back up and rescan.
10) Treat it as a completely new install so make sure and check that your patch is still enabled.

Notes:
To enable patch -> Hit F1 on remote, enter 000 (3 zeros).
If at anytime it asks for a password use master password 9876 if 0000 does not work.

I have done all this and I have channels down. My system is working and channels are there however all my movie channels are down. Does this have anything to do with these patches not being installed properly?

If you are pointed at 91 or 82 (B*V) then yes,lots of channel are blacked out and it has nothing to do with the installation.

5-6 days ago I (very first time) loaded 2.0 ( scrambled channel message was coming and going even after patch enabled F1 000) today loaded 2.01 same problem exists now can not pass scrambled channel msg, the I loaded Factory_Captive WorksV1.02_2007_08_24 and again 2.01 and starting getting error 020.

Looking at above post I have already started Factory_Captive WorksV1.02_2007_08_24 again, then I am set to load 1.99 to onward all.

You think I am doing stupid or I can get rid of error 020 this way?
Why I am getting scrambled channel is question after I this recovery.

I was able to get out of the error 020 last night. My only frustration is even thou I have latest BIN file but suddenly ALL or most of the channel become Scrambled and then I start pressing button on my remote and some time if I go the very first channel and start moving forward Scrambled goes away and some time I have to re-load my last BIN to get is working and I can not make it go away.

I do not know the answer of your question but I am getting the channels I want to watch except sudden Scrambled Channel message.

Thanks alot for step by step guide to solve the problem of error 020.But....As a newbie I could not understand what do u mean by Loader v1.03 and where do I get that?Also now its January ,do i still need to install bin file 1.90 from September 30, 2008?And from which forum i can have bin 1.93 ? If you entered the serial number properly already, you do not need to do it again, no matter which bin version you go to...

But it sounds like you have this problem and did not enter the serial number properly.

I turned the power off from back. Then I hold front power button and turn on back of power until I see boot. It hangs there at boot.Screen is all blank I cant even access the menu. Please help me. The double-click was to run the Loader program. If you are already running the Loader, what you have to do is Open the bin file in the Loader. Click the Folder icon to the right of the File line area. Then find and click on the bin file you wish to load to the receiver. Then click the Start button on the lower left. Be sure all files you download from here have been unzipped first (right-click files from Windows Explorer and select Extract Here). If you see the up and down blue and red arrow icon, that is the Loader program icon that you double-clcik to run in Windows Explorer.

First of all thanks a lot for ur help on fixing up the error 020 problem.
Secondly,now I am having other problem.I am able to scan all the channels but cant play them.Tv screen only displays the channell name and its logo on the right hand above corner
Also here I would like to add here that when I go to channell list there is a different satellite (133) beside the satellite name. Whereas I scanned the channells at(118.7)
And when I go back to Antenna settings the satellite name is 133 instead of 118.7
I dont understand whats going on? Is my receiver bad?Do I need to buy a new one?Or is there something to do with the settings.Please help me out here.Thanks

You need to describe your dish and then I can help you with the settings. 118.7 is a satellite for international channels. That bird requires a special dish and LNB. I am pretty sure you scanned the wrong satellite. I would guess you have 110W and 119W on a Dish 500, as that is the most common dish type. Check your dish. Also check your LNBs for printingt. (LNBs are called the "eyes") Let me know what you have.

Hi Woodcreeker!
Here I am again to bother you.
As being a new to satelliteTV I dont know much of the technical terms.But I will try to tell u in detail.
I have a dish (umbrella,grey color) which is 18*24 wide its an oval dish. with W 2 Dual LNB 118. Now I am using only one LNB for 119 W or 118.7 W.
The LNB I am using right now Its descreption is like this:
SNAP
DBS Circular Dual LNBF
Model D118
RF 11.7-12.75 GHz
L.O 10.75 GHz
Noise 0.3 db
Also I would like to tell u one more thing, today I try to fix the problem again and did everything what you said :

I tried to rescan my channels at 119 W it was scanning the channels but could not scan the all of the channels which I used to scanned before.Still I tried to play that and sae thing happened . I was getting the channel name on the bottom and a logo on the right above corner. It was working good before what is wrong with it now?

Once we figure out your settings, I am sure you will write them down and put them in a safe place, since you said you had this working.

Load the latest bin file on it, do another Factory Default with the remote. Then we will be ready to setup satellites and scan some channels.

Satellite name 17.EchoStar7(119W)
Transponder 12239
LNB Freq 11250
LNB Type Normal
22KHz Auto
Diseqc Number Auto
Legacy SW Off
Motorized System None

Hit the Red button to scan channels here. Save.

Satellite name Anik F3(118.7W)
Transponder 11715
LNB Freq 10750
LNB Type Normal
22KHz Auto
Diseqc Number Auto
Legacy SW Off
Motorized System None

Red button to scan channels. Save.

Exit out, and hit F1 and 000 (three zeros) to enable patch.

Wait until a picture comes up, may take 5 to 10 minutes.

When a picture comes up, you will need to go into your Menu -> User Settings and turn Sort By SID to ON, also turn AutoTP to ON as well. Adjust your Time Zone to your area, and in the Time settings, turn Summer Time to OFF.

That should do it.

Thanks for all the help.My Dish is working now.Thanks a lot. But some channels are missing.I could notget hold of some channels which I used to watch before. Is DN changing there settings? I wanna watch cricket which used to be at 576 but its showing scrambled now.Is anything to do with my settings or something else.Kindly help me ot here.
