FTA Unhappy Strange Situation

Hi guys, I have been using a CW800S for quite some time on the 91w... seeing that has gone down for a bit, i have tried tuning the dish to the 110w, but with no luck.

I have followed dishpointer.com 's directions and positioning to no avail. The funny thing is that if I turn the dish to where the 91w would be I get great quality, but the 110w seems to be nowhere close to where they are telling me...

Is it that I may not have changes some of my receiver settings, or am I in some kind of dead zone for that satellite....

You guys have solved all of my problems so far.... any help would be appreciated with this strange situation also

Re: Strange Situation

Hi,

I don't know how much dish pointing practice you have had..., But If you are getting 91W. unless there is a tree or house blocking 110, the same settings should do.

First be sure you are correcting for the magnetic deviation in your area. If you set your dish back to 91, then check your compass, note the number of degrees difference between the compass reading and the dish. And allow for this when looking for 110.

Make sure your pole is perfectly plumb. And that the dish elevation is set for 110. Then make very small adjustments to look for the signal. I just tap the edge of the dish to get small adjustments.

Remember: you are trying to hit something the size of a minivan that is over 200 miles away. It takes some precision.

Good luck!

Re: Strange Situation

Do a Factory Default first with the remote. You do not need to write a different bin file, and this Factory Default will not change any of the software on the receiver.

It is best to change the dish to Echo 7 119W. Drop the elevation (on the side) down around 7 or 8 elevations. Go into Echo 7 119W settings, and change the TP to 12239. Move the dish about 30 degrees to the West, which is like 5 minutes on a clock if looking down from the top of the mast pole. Not very far. That satellite is better than 110W for a single LNB. To best test DN, you need two dishes. To find 110W from your Nimiq position, move it down 4 elevations, and move the dish a little less towards the West, like 20 degrees. I would go for 119W. If you want, you can find another dish lying around and sight them both in.

Check this picture out...

I like putting this up so you (and other members) can sort of visually see where you are aiming to get the satellite, and other satellites if you want to.

Hope this helps...

I am pretty sure you will find it now.

Good Luck !!
