Dead Coolsat 6000 Repair Guide
C/P from bmass520 My apologies if this is redundant, but I wanted to share my experience, in case others have the same symptoms. Everytime I unplugged my Coolsat 6000 and plugged it back in later, it was taking longer each time to come to life. Sometimes the LEDs would be dim, and if I cycled it with the rear power switch enough times, it would gradually come to life. It would be fine if I left it on, but unplugging it would kill it again. Eventually the thing just died. Then, I found a great Sticky thread about dead 6000. I popped the cover off, the middle (1000uF) capacitor was popped up on top. For a couple dollars at Radio Shack, I found a 1000uF which was slightly larger than the one on the board, but the one they sell will work fine (or better). The higher voltage rating may mean it will not wear out as easily. Removing the jumpers and circuit board was extremely easy. Although the RS capacitor is bigger (taller and fatter) than the one I was replacing, I just ran the leads thru the holes, and let it sit up higher than the other two. (Newbies: MAKE SURE YOU OBSERVE CORRECT +/- POLARITY ON THE NEW PART, AND WHEN TAKING OUT THE OLD PART!) It took about a minute to solder the new part in and another minute or two to get the board and box back together. The box was immediately cured and I have had no problems since. This seems to be the one design flaw in the 6000. They probably needed a slightly heavier duty capacitor in the power supply. So if your box is dead, take a minute to open it up and check this capacitor out for a popped up top. (or a swollen look) Attached picture shows the new teal blue Capacitor installed. (Centered between the other two smaller blue capacitors) The recommended replacement is labeled 16v 1000 uF

Re: Dead Coolsat 6000 Repair Guide
All the Coolsat 6000 files are at the below link:
http://www.aaafta.com/forum/coolsat-6000-premium-files/ You have a problem with support on that receiver model, though. Right now they are working for BEV only, as a fluke, on an old file release. Save yourself a lot of grief, get another receiver. Our sponsor is a reliable seller of Viewsats and Sonicviews. He only ships to the USA and Puerto Rico. The Banner Ad is on the top of every page on the AAAFTA site. I would buy a new Viewsat Ultra V2 !! Viewsat | Official Retail Site Also use the coupon code for this site, Coupon Code -> GREATPRICES <- for an extra $5 off, our AAAFTA site discount. So for around $130 shipped, this has to be the lowest price on the web right now for a Viewsat Ultra V2 !!! You will be glad you did. Welcome to AAAFTA !!
