FTA Unhappy Future Coolsat Support Information

Future Coolsat Support Information, Well, Maybe Not...

Here's an edited C/P from another site.

Very Interesting Information

Coolsat Saga 05-28-2008

A lot of people are looking for information on Coolsat support (which may become NO support) on their older models 4000, 5000 and 6000. Here are the details I got after doing some digging around.

Coolsat 4000, 5000 and 6000 were made by a separate company out of Korea than the 6100, 7000 and 7100 models were manufactured by. To make the matter even more complicated, Coolsat decided to go with a 3rd company for the 8000 and 8100 model receivers. Freetech, the North American importer of all the above receivers did not pay their first generation receiver coders very well to take care of these products, so the coders decided to screw them around with the lesser models. The 6100, 7000 and 7100 coders did not like their pay either and they decided to throw their support behind a different importer, K-HUB (the K1 Heros and K2 Extreme receivers, the same manufacturer out of Korea as the Coolsat 6100, 7000 and 7100 models) These guys claim that the end seem to be near between Freetech and the Korean manufacturer. Freetech is offering to take back the 4000, 5000 and 6000 models and trade them up to Coolsat 6100 private with a fee of $89. That is roughly the wholesale price of the Coolsat 6100 and it will help them get rid of the extra 30,000 units they have onhand and are stuck with. Once they have the money in their pockets, they will go on with different manufactures and the Coolsat customers will be left to fend for themselves with no support just like the older models they just traded in for.

I was told that the KBOX K1 Heros coders can take care of the coding for the 6100, 7000 and 7100 models if they decide to do it. The k-hubs work with just the Coolsat 6100 and 7100 currently, and they auto run off of k-hub servers. These are NOT Coolsat servers, the actual Coolsat servers for their dongles and are still at only a few dozen channels.

The current Coolsat 6100 and 7100 files are from the K-HUB team.

That is the story on Coolsat for now and the future still does not look too bright for them at this time, with any model.

The reason we are asking is because we are a small site just starting out and all expenses are out of pocket. In order to maintain and keep the site running it costs lots of money for server costs, maintenance, etc. It's more than one can be obligated to pay and we hope you can find it in your hearts to help support this site so we can continue to give you great support.

suejim, this thread is nearly a year old, but it certainly looks like Woodcreekers info was right.
Sonicview certainly seem to be one of the most recommended and they certainly have good support, they havent been down for a long time now.

No,it's a bad time to make a change.

When Nagra 3 will hit completely then nothing will work, even the 360 Elite,so you will end up with another non working receivers. We are a couple of days or months for that to happen.

I would say to stick with your current receiver.

Check in the True Fta section, some good info there on how to get Free To Air channel,No file is requires for those one.

Good luck.

Re: Future Coolsat Support Information

I have read on other sites that Coolsat is no more. It has finally gone bankrupt, and there will be no more bins, as they are no longer being made. Good Luck to all who own one Todd

Re: Future Coolsat Support Information

I was just on Coolsat canada and it does say that all coolsat models are now discontinued and no more will be produced. Looks like the end for me. When I bought my 4000 it was the best on the market now look at me.

If you had the Coolsat 4000 that long ago, you have had a good long run.

You probably saved enough on pay TV to buy several more FTA receivers.
