As a relative "newbie", I have a zillion questions. A friend gave me a Fortec FTA Lifetime receiver, remote, and manual. I know it must be somewhat obsolete. What I want to do is receive Dish Network channels only. I have a DN dual LNB 500 dish and am capable of installing, aligning, etc. I am presently a subscriber to DirecTV. If using the Fortec is feasible, I would be willing to continue my subscription to DirecTV and substitute the DTV box for the Fortec (assuming upgrade of Fortec is not prohibitive). I'm seeking the least expensive way of receiving either DN or DTV.
I connected the Fortec to my DirecTV antenna. While I did not receive any channels, it does seem to function o.k. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome. First tip to mention is to reply to the E-Maile this site sent you so you can access all the downloads available. Do you know if that thing has been converted to a pan 2700 yet? You will also not be able to get andything from dtv, you can get dn and the Canadian equivalent bev. The dish 500 should probably get 110 & 119 for you after some modifications to you stb.

yes bobo is correct, nothing on DTV. you mention you want to use a dp500 and then you say you want to connect to the dtv dish.

yes you will have to attempt to convert the fortec to a pansat. i have not tried but there is help here on the site. if you really want to get into the hobby and be a tester, i would suggest you upgrade to a newer unit.

you can install the dp500 dish pointed at dn, then you can get channels on that bird just fine.
