Found this and thought it might be worth a read and make for good talking points;

I've been thinking back when satelites first came out, the big ugly dish that moved slow. I never owned one but my best friend did. I remeber him having his board modded so he could manually enter the keys to get programs from the available sat's at that time, always had to call whoever modded the board to get the keys, usally about once a month, then finally ended up being once a week, remember frind got frustrated and no more sat.

Then along came PrimStar, smaller fix'ed dish that only picked up one sat with a small amount of avaliable programs. I believe they paved the way with the use of EPROM chips enbedded in cards, starting the smart card technology but not finacally ready so they sold thier technology to Di***tv (Dave) you shared a porton of the technology to Di**net (Charlie) but not the complete tech. That way Dave would always be a couple steps in front of Charlie, who didn't quite have the bucks Dave had.

Then the H card (Dave) and following a couple steps back (because it was cheaper to copy than do the actual reserce) the N1 card (Charlie). Both cards no more than a EPROM chip embedded card, with minor differences in each company's tech.

Now starts the so called " Hacking " of the cards technology, witch was no more than someone leaking the info as how to compermise the card. Then steps in the Hacker/programer who builds a device (ISO) he can write a program for which let him open the EPROM and read and write to it, the Hacker/Programer learned the comand rutines and wrote a program that would alow him to open all channeles. And so the H card was Hacked/Leaked, in the meen time Charlies programs wer'nt that good so they where overlooked for the time being.
Back then ths " Satelite Community " was very small, which ment a small amount of pepole had the equip and knowledge of the programs to program the H cards wide open. I remember the guy I went to to have my card done, it was like going to a drug dealer, only pepole who had connectios with someone allready using him was able to be part of his group, he made a killing at 20.00 a card everytime he did his thing. Now as time went on the news of the man who could open your card spread like wildfire causing him to much harrasment and traffic so he let a few of us in on his secret so we could do cards ourself and take the heat off him. Which actually happened all over.
Which caused the " satelite Community " to multiply by hundreds, which inturn got Daves attention.
All the while a few Hackers/Programmers where working on Charlies N1 card, seeing how its tech was very close to Daves.
During these times the Hacker/Programmer only had to proggram the emmbeded EPROM chip.

So now Dave knows whats happening so he regroups and comes up with a new card " HU " wich is no more than the orginal card with a embeded security code which would loop the card if the old progammes wher used to get ito the cards EPROM.
Which we all no was called " Black Sunday " not long another leak/hack was leaked, (and that person as far as I know is still in prison)
The info leaked was just what the Hacker/Programmer needed to provide the equipmet and programmes to unloop the cards and do thier thing to the EPROM once agine.
Charlie soon followed suit with thier new N2 card which didn't loop the card (Dave already had dibs on that method) but lock the card.
Dave spent alot of money trying differt ways of stoping us frome blacklisting cam Id's, to causing cards to marry recievers, to sending out letters, to finally conficting pepole. Still Dave was losing big bucks, so he tried to put the problem on Charlie by leaking info (Hack if you will) on how to beat the lock security of N2 cards.
The Hacker/Programmer took this and ran with it, writing programmes to unlock and block future locks, these were a little harder than doing Daves cards, so Dave regroup agine. Thus the P4

So Dave saw it was cheaper to come up with another card. The problem wasen't the cards being hacked, but the leaks from with-in.
Now he has a card made with multiable security's wich more than one person would be able to leak info for all security (witch has worked now for 6 yrs) no leak means no hack.

For months the rumors flew about a possible hack. New methods of getting to the EPROM using acid micro scopes and who knows what else, and belive it or not they did get to the EPROM and could read it and write but didn't help with out the info for the multible security Leaked/Hack

So because they could not get the Leaks/Hack needed the P4 rumors fizzeld out

So the Hackers/Programmers turned their attention back to Charlie. They came up with a muli-million dollar plan to use the info they gathered on the N2 card, and the FTA receiver that has a EPROM chip already in it, and write a code using thier knowledge of unlocking and blocking from the plastic to opening all channels just by writing the right codes to be downloaded to a FTA reciever.
Great idea, then Charlie fought back with MAP57 that blaked out FTA for a little while. Then comes the "Leak/Hack" and FTA is back up.

Just like before Charlie being a few steps behind Dave go'es the P4 route with the new N3.
Just like the P4, rumors of N3 Hack every where and I'm sure they can get a dump from N3 EPROM but just like the P4, will be useless.

So here we are agine, rumors will fly just like P4 for a couple of months, and just like before the big money makers have come up with IKS, ICS, its all boils down to sharing a sub, but over the enternet.

I don't think there will ever be a wideopen IKS, yea mabe close as long as the Hackers/Coders pay for a sub, wich will end up costing for private servers, the money has to come from somewhere.
This will eventally make it easier for Charlie to blacklist subs, and by the end of 2010 all IKS subs will be blacklisted, leaving only one alter.

Legal subs where someone pays for a muti room sub and shares with family and friends.

The saying "If man made it, man can break it" craks me up. Nobody ever broke into these cards, the info was always "LEAKED"
And yes I broke about 10 H,HU,P4, N2 cards by cutting them up, the only way to break them lol

So until there is a major "LEAK" there will be no "HACK"

My take on this, as it always has been, is that this is just one big industry. Charlie and Dave are the market leaders they have the most cash. They control the industry. However, there is just so much of the market that each one can have, as designated by the Federal Broadcasting Corporation ( that might not be the official name, but the function should be the same:regulatory). The market has been saturated for some time and Charlie and Bev were more or less satisfied with business and also the growth rate. However, it could be that lately ( prior to N3) Charlie and Bev may have been losing too many of thier subscribers with the popularity of the free bin files. Therefore, the market controllers/leaders had to strike back a balance, even if it meant they had to inject some capital to do so, which of course is always the case.

Of course, Charlie and Bev could not allow the Receiver section of the industry to overtake them, hence N3.
So until Charlie and Bev gets back that portion of the market with which they are satisfied, there will not be a leak, hence no hack.

well for another view
you must stop and consider who ever ( leaks ) the info it will be a life changing experiance hence it'll take a lot of cash to change their lives and to relocate and start anew ... so there must not be enough on the table yet that we know of but time will tell
as they say money makes the world go round and round and eveyone is in line for a ride just depends on the price of the ticket
just a little food for thought

but with all these people working on this something will happen we just have to wait until a life changing experience comes along
untill then

That's a pretty tricky proposition Car. Somebody might get hurt. I suggest you get those guys together and practice on me first!!!
