NAG3/N3 - Dish Network will not Destroy FTA

I do not believe for one minute that fta is finished. Remember Free to Air is not Illegal, hacking the codes is. As a general rule, if its send unencrypted, then its a free for all.

Look at the facts.

Dish Network began operations in 1996 as a service of EchoStar. EchoStar was formed in 1980 by its Chairman and CEO, Charles Ergen. ES was the parent company of DN. Dish Network was spun off from Echostar in 2008. Now medears wasn't that the year NAG3 hit??????

Below is a very old C & P but I am giving it as an example of earlier ES fta receivers;

Echostar AD-2000 IP :- this is Echostar's first combined analogue/digital receiver. Channel storage is 1500 digital TV channels + 400 radio as well as 700 analogue stations. It's an FTA box i.e. no CAM. There's a mechanical polariser controller and a built in positioner which will store up to 50 satellite positions. There are 4 F connectors , 3 being inputs ; if only 1 LNB is used you must connect the LNB output to the second input which then interconnects the LNB to both analogue & digital tuners. There are 3 SCARTS , separate S-VHS & a serial port as well as video/audio output phono sockets. The Praxis Digimaster 9800AD + P seems to be an identical receiver except for the front panel.

Eurostar Eurobox 9700F :- I assume the "F" means FTA (Free To Air) as this low-priced but capable receiver has no CAM slot. Symbol rate range is 2, 000-35, 000 MS/s and so it works for SCPC as well as MCPC. There's 1000 channel storage, serial port, 2 SCARTS and LNB loop through + a 12 Volt switch. There could be some number confusion with Nokia who also have a "Eurobox" but theirs is the 9740C & is a digital cable receiver. Although a low cost box, there is DiSEqC V 1.0 and the menus are selectable in 1 of 5 languages including French English, German and Arabic. Seems reasonable value for money & a CI version is expected as the box has a space on the case & board for a CAM.

Echostar fta boxes are quite big in Europe and because of all these reports/rumours about court cases DN and ES have going against Viewtech(VS) and Sonicview, I think they are playing dirty by trying to knock out the most popular competition in the US and Canadian markets and expand there. Makes sense doesn't it?

Read a little of their history and see how its all very much intertwined, especially sometimes against the very people they have been connected to and then tried to prosecute previously.

I feel sure if we all were to buy ES fta receivers in the future if an expansion takes place, we can all tiddle away to our hearts content, without any Charlies "Nagging" us much.

Also look at it this way. IKS is getting their keys from somewhere, the master key could have been captured and sent out via IKS. It may be that the keys are being shuttled from a hacked box, most likely plastic with tiers coming up and down from time to time.

I believe nFusion did that with N2 with hacked cards. It might explain the importance of the ASIC chip found in all nFusion products now. nFusion boxes weren't popular sales until the NAG3.

IKS gives nFusion the bin protection they need to protect their investment for a while.

The major problem facing an IKS manufacturer with an N3 fix is server and isp bandwidth. They will get a gigantic sever hit if they come out with a solution.

An IKS solution also solves the inevitable ECM attacks that would come with any N3 fix.

I do not think for one minute fta is over. Viewsat are not finished by a long way. I think the owners of the Korean plant that used to produce Viewsats will regroup, bring out more receivers under a different brand name and off we go again.

Maybe this rumour of Jung Kwak, 33, also known as “Mr. Viewsat,” of Oceanside, California, Phillip Allison, 35, also known as “thebroken,” and Robert Ward, 54, also known as “TDG” and as “thedssg" pleading guilty is true and they have pled as such to get it finished with and ready to move on.

There is too much money to be made from this. Do you really imagine those canny Koreans will close down their factory, retire and let the Americans beat them. No way....

I think they have already been planning that in view of recent events and that is why there are rumours of "laying off Viewsat staff and filing for bankruptcy". They are going to stop Charlie getting their money and throwing the wind in his face. Any Viewsat receivers they have not sold will be adapted and renamed. They may also bring out adapters to allow existing VS owners to use their boxes, but I don't think so as they would make more money with new receivers. Now all that makes good business sense.

That may be why Viewsat never bothered with IKS. Those manufacturers will certainly have the funds, brains and the power to obtain the N3 fix. I think right now they are playing with Charlie. Would you throw out a honeypot just because some flies started bothering you? Nah.

I agree, I don't think FTA is done and you are also right about FTA being huge in Europe. Stores that would be the German equivalent of Sears sell FTA receivers and they are also pretty cheap!

For now IKS is the only game in town and it will likely be for the for foreseeable future. But at some time there will be a crack and if Viewsat can't continue in it's traditional form I am sure someone associated with the company will do something creative as Lady mentioned. Maybe there will be a new company called Satview! II would also believe that failing this that someone is willing to continue to pay Cypher and others to continue their work. Money does make the world go around and there is a lot of money to be made here!

Thank you, this will probably start circulating around some sites now, I wonder if they will put it in their rumour sections. We should have some way of putting spoilers on our posts so that when they are C & P aaafta's name keeps popping up. Nice way to encourage some new members. Thats why I always put NAG3/N3 at the start of the title, for the search engines.

And I like to encourage people in Canada to get a FTA receiver especially if they get BEV or are a Rogers or Telus cable subscriber. There are 3 cell phone carriers in Canada which are also the 3 companies I just listed for TV services. Oddly enough all their rates are ppretty much the same they don't even try to compete. I should also mention that they have some of the highest cell phone airtime rates in the world. As of today they successful stopped a 4th cellphone carrier from entering in to the Canadian market. This new companies rates were going to be with in the normal price range that you would pay in the US which would have made my cell phone bill 40% cheaper. We also have the longest cell phone contracts in the world an average of 3 years.

Basically FTA gives me a little bit of satisfaction when it comes to this Oligopoly. As I said money makes the world go around and these companies like to take Canadian money so it is nice to make a little ding in their wallet when the do it to mine!

I should also add to the fact that those 3 providers are 3 of the 4 major providers of internet in Canada. They also have the same practice of collusion when it comes to the internet. A study out of Harvard looked at ISPs around the world and wrote a report advising in which direction that internet should and should not go for Americans in the near future. They listed that Canadian example as the direction that it should not go!

Basically every time I pay my internet and cell phone bill..... my butt hole feels a little bit bigger each time!..... FTA just kinda helps with the friction! ....... But being Canadian we politely say "thank you" after they are done!

Well it looks like the CRTC ruling that will disallow the new carrier is going to be reviewed by the industry minister. It seems that this issue isn't dead! I can't wait to change to the new carrier, if you have seen their plans then you can see why Bell, Telus and Rogers are scared.

I totally agree with you car, Canadians were absolutely fantastic when I met many on my recent trip. So nice, helpful and polite and oh what a beautiful country. I am already going to start saving up for another trip when I have paid all my debts.
