Equipment Advice

Hi all.

I have a DTV dish on my house's roof. I used to pay for the service but switched to cable.

What I need to start?

I know I need a receiver. I searched on ebay there's a lot of brands and models. What brand/model will work if I want to get DN channels?

Is difficult to point the dish to the right place?

What other equipment I need?

Thanks!

CF

Re: Equipment Advice

do you want to get true FTA or other programming?

DTV makes many kinds of dishes, you will have to provide more info. in general these dishes are not best suited.

What I need to start?
1. DN dish 500 (most common) you can hit sats 110 & 119
2. STB receiver - must be IKS capable which means you will need to have a highspeed internet connection in order to watch N3 encrypted channels. (google is your friend) if you do not now these terms.

Here is a few suggestions of working receivers..
  • conaxsat
  • nfusion
  • kbox
  • sonicview (i would wait if your thinking of getting this one
3. once box is purchased you will need to load all latest files to your receiver and scan both sats in order for you to start viewing channels.

As far as pointing the dish @ first it will be difficult but reference this site to help you out. Just type in your zip code and which sat you are trying to hit and this will be a huge help.

Satellite Finder / Dish Pointing Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com

This is pretty much all you will need other then possibly a bridged router next to your receiver to provide internet connection to your box. (note) all receivers mentioned above will require a Dongle or HUB (remember google is your friend) with the exception of the NFusion and CNX nano 2.

Good Luck.
