COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR WIRELESS ETHERNET BRIDGE SETUP

The following procedure is to get the Vikosmo Ethernet Bridge ready to use in bridge mode.

This procedure must be performed by the customer because every wireless home network has some unique properties. During this procedure, you will be hooking the Bridge up to your computer to manually make changes to it's software. To do so, the following step-by-step instructions as these will guide you through how to make changes to your PC in order for it to communicate with the bridge, how to customize the bridge to your network, and finally, how to reset your computer to its original condition. These instructions should take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
  1. Connect the wireless bridge to your computer with an ethernet cable and plug it into a power outlet. Note: we will not be hooking the bridge up to the router during this procedure, only the computer and the ethernet enabled device you wish to add to your wireless network.

  2. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Right click Local area connection and choose properties.)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center.)To access the connection properties, click on VIEW STATUS next to the local connection and click on properties.

  3. a) FOR WINDOWS XP,Double click on internet protocal (TCP/IP)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, Double click on internet protocal version 4.
  4. Set your IP Address to 192.168.1.20 and your subnet to 255.255.255.0 by enabling radio button "use the following ip address"
  5. Click OK to exit the TCP/IP Properties window, then click ok again to exit
the Local Area Connection properties window and save your changes.
  6. Open Internet Explorer Browser and in the Address bar type 192.168.1.253 to
access the Ethernet bridge settings. NOTE: YOU WILL NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS AT THIS TIME, AND UNTIL ALL STEPS ARE COMPLETED.
  7. Enter the username and password when prompted. (Your username and password
are written on the bottom of the ethernet bridge.)
  8. Click on the "Lan Settings" menu item on the left hand side.
  9. Some routers use a number other than 1 in the 3rd octet of their ip address. Example: 192.168.2.x . If your router uses a 1, then proceed to step 14, otherwise continue to the next step.
  10. On the Lan Settings screen change the bridges IP address to the same range as
your wireless routers IP range. (The bridge IP is 192.168.1.253 by default, so for
example, if your wireless routers IP address is 192.168.2.1, then your would want to
change the number in the 3rd octet to 2, making your Ethernet bridges IP 192.168.2.253)
  11. Click apply changes, this will disconnect you from the bridge.
  12. Follow steps 1 - 4 again, substituting the new IP range instead. (For example, if you
changed the bridges IP to 192.168.2.253, then you will want to change your Local Area
Connection IP to 192.168.2.20 instead of 192.168.1.20)
  13. Open the Ethernet Bridge's configuration page again in Internet Explorer (like in step 6), by using it's new IP address.
  14. Click on the "Wireless" menu on the left, and choose "basic settings".
  15. Click on the dropdown menu for MODE: and select CLIENT.
  16. Click on apply changes, and when the page reloads, click on "OK" to continue.
  17. Click on the Site Survey button and a new page will appear in a new instance of Internet Explorer.
  18. In this new page, click on REFRESH, your wireless network should show up in the list. If you are using security for your wireless network, skip ahead to step 24.
  19. Select radio button for your wireless network in the far right column and then click connect. When the page reloads, click "OK" to continue and close this smaller page when it reloads with your network site survey.
  20. Click the "apply changes" button at the bottom. When the page reloads, you may close the Internet Explorer.

  21. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Right click Local area connection and choose properties.)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, go to your Local Area Connection properties. (Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center.) To access the connection properties, click on VIEW STATUS next to the local connection and click on properties.

  22. a) FOR WINDOWS XP, Double click on internet protocol (TCP/IP)
    B) FOR WINDOWS VISTA, Double click on internet protocol version 4.
  23. Click the radio buttons for "obtain ip address automatically" and "obtain dns server address automatically". Click okay at the bottom to close this window, and repeat for the next window.

Your ethernet bridge is now setup to be used. Windows Vista may need to be rebooted if you would like to test the bridge with your pc, otherwise, disconnect the bridge from your computer and plug it into the target device. Remember to power off the device before hooking the bridge up to it and powering the bridge up.

This Section is for those that have a secured Network:

Here it will tell you what type of encryption you have. Make a note of this and close this new browser.
  25. On the main setup screen to the left, click on the security menu. Choose the type of security you are using for your network. (WEP, WPA, ETC.)
  26. If your security type is WEP, click on the "Set Wep Key" button and fill in all relevant information, save it and close the pop-up browser. If using any other security type, fill in your pass phrase or security code in the main explorer and click apply.
  27. Go back to the Wireless Basic Settings page and click on the Site Survey button and a new page will appear in a new instance of Internet Explorer.

Remember to power off the device before hooking the bridge up to it and powering the bridge up.
