I scoped out FAQs & Guides without finding any reference to this topic, so here I am. I'd like to help friends get into the FTA hobby, but I have so many projects already going that a source of out-grown equipment would be welcome (I'm also notoriously CHEAP). What say the Powers That Be to a Buy/Sell Forum? Perhaps an extra incentive for 'contibuting members' could be worked in to prevent access by 'new members' until a post reached a week of age? Posts would have a one month 'shelf life' before expiring, if not previously canceled. Naturally, the board would have the requisite disclaimer of responsibility for any transactions which might arise. If the site sponsors object to such an idea, perhaps they might consider using it on their proprietary sites? Yes, I'm still on my medication, but I get these ideas anyway...

I do not have a problem with it. Of course the site could not be responsible for members trading / selling equipment. I am sure anyone here would know that. I also like the idea of giving the Contributors getting the first shot at buying something posted for sale / trade as well.

Believe it or not, there is an Auction mod we could do to create ebay-like auctions. LOL (That could get hairy, I can see the pages and pages of rules already...)

I like this idea, H-D, and it will also help set off our new Contributors forum. It is floating there, and never got put out in the regular forums for the Contributors, as we couldn't think of any Contributor Only topics for forums, and now we finally have one. Only Contributors would be able to see the Contributor forums. (Along with Moderators, Site Helpers, and the Admin of course) Then, if none of the Contributors get a bite, we could move the thread with things for sale out to the public forum.

Any other ideas along these lines, let us know AAAFTA members.

Hey, tileguy! I betcha you'd find some interest in them, what with folks wanting to power up beaucoup lnb multi-sat systems! One friend of mine in particular is faced with a LLOONNGG cable run due to BIG (No Downstream Oaks these) trees on his place, MO' POWA would help. BTW tree encroachment is why I'm up all night, the big suckers'll get ya if you don't watch out! There's plenty of folks awake & watchin' during the day, so I figure it's safe to sleep then.

I belong to a couple of photography forums that have Buy & sell sections. Most work well and have a few simple rules. Here are the rules from a local group I belong to:

BUY AND SELL FORUM RULES

1. Minimum 15 posts before one can post here, sorry, had to do this due to past issues.
2. ABSOLUTELY NO SPAM.
   • This is not a place for bulk sales, retail stores, online stores, or members offering their professional services for a fee. The intention here is for individuals to buy and sell gear, not to solicit a business or service. These type of posts will not be tolerated.
3. A sale thread's initial post must state an asking price.
   • Of course you can haggle, but an initial (and max) price must be stated. A post simply asking for offers or conducting a PM auction is not allowed. A price must be stated in initial post.
4. Don't post multiple threads about the same item.
5. You cannot charge taxes on top of an already stated price (so your initial stated price should include taxes). Honour your prices.
6. Do not sell something you don't have in your immediate possession.
7. All pirated/bootleg/illegal software sales/trades or even implying their inclusion in a sale/trade is strictly prohibited.
8. Please do not post links to items being sold on other sites (like Ebay or Craigslist).
9. Postings must only be related to photography. All others will be removed.
10. Arguments will not be tolerated.
    • If you do not intend to buy and have nothing positive to add to the sale, refrain from posting in the thread. This includes things like stating "the price is too high", or "it's cheaper at this store", etc. If you think the price is too high, inform seller via the PM service or an email. If you think your post may be in any way interpreted as being "argumentative" then take the safer route and send your message via PM or email to the seller. Replies of these kind will be removed without question.
11. Found something for sale at the store for a good price you want to share? Please post it in Gear and Equipment instead.
12. Bumping
    • You cannot bump a message no more than once every 24 hours. Responding to the post to answer a question is considered a bump (however you can reply to other questions if posted afterwards).
13. Once a sale is complete, update the thread by editing it and adding "SOLD" to the title, or in the case of a multiple item thread, state within the thread the items which have been sold. Do not edit the post such that the contents of the post is removed.
14. If misuse of the forum is found and the behaviour is not corrected after one warning, your account will be locked immediately. This also applies if multiple accounts are found for the same individual. These accounts will be locked immediately or deleted without question. To re-activate your primary account, you must contact one of the moderators on this forum upon you agreeing to the terms here which can be done through email. Email addresses can be found here.
15. We hope that no issues arise as a result of providing this forum for gear swapping. Buyer and seller beware. ______ can not make any claims about the integrity of items sold through this forum.
