more Slingbox...Slinging bull or great stuff???

Great Slingbox section here at AAAFTA.
Just wanted to add a little more..

Slingbox, a great electronic invention or just a lot of slinging bull?

Slingbox is a TV/Video placeshifting device designed by a company named Slingmedia,Inc..It is designed to allow you to watch and control your home video sources from any broadband internet location in the world.

As of today there are 4 models that can be used in the USA, each with their own FIRMWARE , depending on what device you want to watch (cable, DVR, satellite, yes including FTA)

REQUIREMENTS FOR HOME::
1. LAN(local area network)
2. Router (DHCP enabled)
3. Internet Connection ( Broadband, high speed for out of home access)
4. TV Source ( Any TV signal: Antenna , analog cable, digital cable box or
satellite receiver)

PC CLIENT REQUIREMENTS:
1. Windows XP (all), Windows 2000
2. Pentium IV Processer
3. 1 GHz . or equivalent
4. 256 MB Ram, 100MB free hard drive space
5. 24 bit color graphic card
6. 16 bit sound card
7. CD-ROM Drive
8. Ethernet or wireless Lan- equipped PC

The Slingbox can be purchased at most electronic stores and range in price from $179 to $249. There are no recurring fees to worry about, only the one time purchase fee.
The boxes work on most PC's and there is a MAC version.

I understand there is software for a mobile pocket PC and for Windows Smartphone, however, only one device can be used at a time on 1 box.

The picture quality has a full control scheme and is as good as the original picture on your TV.
Your remote control Unit is visible on your PC screen and is fully functional, ie. guide, info , page up/down, DVR recording/viewing, etc.

My favorite use of my Slingbox is twofold. I can drive my wife crazy when she is home watching TV and I can change the channels from my PC wherever I am, and I can go to my in-laws now and watch the hockey game on my PC while everyone else watches American Idol.

If you would like more information , google Slingmedia.com or post on the forum and I will get back to you.

It may be worth checking it out for me just for these reasons alone. LOL

Re: more Slingbox...Slinging bull or great stuff???

Pocket PC for sure, not sure about IPOD but they have expanded their MAC capabilities. Get the email off of my post and ask them, that would be good info for the forum

Re: more Slingbox...Slinging bull or great stuff???

I'm new to the FTA world but have been using a Sling Box for almost two years now.
I have the Sling Pro with four inputs.
My inputs are -

1-Comcast DVR

2-Comcast straight cable , bypasses the DVR so I can watch a different channel than someone at home

3- FTA box

4-Camera in living room. I can monitor my house from anywhere. The camera also has sound. This lets me keep an eye on my new Pioneer 60" Kuro.

I use Sprint as my wireless provider. I signed up when it was unlimited bandwidth. All carriers now have a 5gb per month usage limit.

If you do a lot of TV watching on your Sling you can really rack up the gb's. Mine typically run around 8-10 gb's a month and I am not a heavy user.

It really is a wonderful product.
