Quality Problem
Looking for some input. A friend has a sv 4000 pointing at 91. It is loaded with 188p and has been working good. No connections have been touched in the past 10months, and it is a B3v sub dish installed by them. The box froze up yesterday and displayed a "4" on the screen. He did a hard reboot with the rear switch and was left with channel 49 and 900,s. Rescanned sat, and there was no change. Did factory reset, again no difference. Flashed factory file and loaded 187p, and got all but 35 channels back. The signal is between 68% and 74%, but quality is way down. it is between 36 and 56% depending on the channel causing signal interuption. All was good before the reciever went down. The dish is somewhat protected and there is no snow on the dish. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what can cause an sudden quality drop. Any input would be great! I have had him try everything I could think of!!

Re: Quality Problem
bad diseqc switch?
plug into anothe port on the switch. Check RG6 for nicks, cracks or rust, weather can damage the cable and with a sudden temp drop it can freeze and crack. LNB got damaged... RG6 was disconnected from back of the receiver while the power switch on the back was not turned off... Few reasons why it can be

Re: Quality Problem
You did not say whether or not Nimiq1 is the only satellite he is using. I do not have the complete setup, so I will have to give you the easiest troubleshooting.
That sounded pretty wild, that violent reboot. I would run a new cable out direct from the receiver to the Nimq1 LNB to check quality again. Just a short direct cable, bypass any switch if you have one. If quality is still low, well, seems the dish moved sometime during the 10 months. A simple realignment is probably what is needed, then.

Re: Quality Problem
Thanks for the input. Sorry for the lack of info. It has a RG6 cable run By the provider direct from dish to receiver(one piece). No switches. No new connections. He had b3v sub for the bad days and sv 4000 for the good days. !0 months ago he got cable so there was no longer any need to change wires around..B3V installed the dish 3 years ago. He has checked his connections at the receiver but the dish is up on the roof line so he could not check those. I will tell him to get up there and check for corrosion. Everything worked good with the settings till the box crashed. This has got me stumped!!

Re: Quality Problem
Sounds to me like the dish has moved a bit, try tweeking the dish and it might solve your problem.
