Manny Pacquiao, boxing's pound-for-pound king, is on a quest to be included among the greatest of all-time. World Champion Miguel Cotto is determined to keep his belt, and use his bone-crushing power to topple the sport's top fighter. His performance in 2008 was described as “Henry Armstrongesque,” winning world titles at 130 and 135 pounds with victories over Juan Manuel Marquez and David Diaz, respectively, and knocking out and retiring Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds to complete the trifecta. This year, he picked up where he left off last year – winning another world title in a new weight division – by dealing defending junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton a one-punch second-round knockout on May 2. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ![]() Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico has sold more tickets to Madison Square Garden in this millennium than any other fighter. He has held a world title every year since 2004. Puerto Rico’s most exciting fighter, Cotto held the WBO junior welterweight crown from 2004-2006, successfully defending it six times before vacating it to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title at the end of 2006, a title he held for nearly as long. He won his second welterweight title in February, knocking out Michael Jennings in the fifth round at Madison Square Garden to become the WBO welterweight champion. Notable scalps on Cotto’s belt include Sugar Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Joshua Clottey, Paulie Malignaggi and Demarcus Corley. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Undercard WBA light middleweight title: Daniel Santos vs. Yuri Foreman Jesus Soto Karass vs Alfonso Gomez Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Troy Rowland Undefeated No. 1 contenders Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Yuri Foreman, plus three-time world champion Daniel Santos add more Firepower to the blockbuster card headlined by the Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto welterweight championship, taking place Saturday, November 14 at the sold out MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Re: PPV Boxing Presents: Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto Saturday, November 14
Korobov fight to be televised Top Rank is planning to show some of the undercard fights free prior to Saturday’s Pacquiao-Cotto PPV telecast starts, including a bout featuring the highly touted Olympian middleweight Matt Korobov (7-0, 6 KOs). “We are going to do something very unique on the night of the 14th,” revealed Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “We are going to feed the part of the undercard that is not on pay-per-view which features so many aspiring young fighters who are looking to make their mark on boxing and we are going to put it on various channels on inDemand, cable systems, on DirecTV and on DN and that will run from 7-8:30 PM ET and it will feature fighters like Matt Korobov, the young Russian sensation; Rodrigo Garcia from Los Angeles, a real future prospect. Then at 8:30PM ET, a half hour prior to the pay-per-view, we’re doing a special 30-minute show which is very exciting and that leads into the pay-per-view telecast which begins at 9PM ET.”
