HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

Help me guys, I have problems with my HP laptop. You know how important it is for me. The pages keep jumping when I am typing for no reason. The port wont work for me to downlad my files into my receiver and now no headset will work in the port. Any ideas? I dont have a USB on my receiver so need that port for the null modem cable and serial adaptor connection

HP Pavilion dv 1000 XP. Receiver port went down many months ago. Headset only 1 week ago, about that time the jumping started.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

What do you mean by pages jump?
Is it the picture on the screen jumping or is it going frome page to page?
Can you make it jump by tapping anywere on the laptop or just the keyboard?
As for the com port dying thats a hard one. The com port is not run off drivers. It is a device controlled by the C-mos.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

When you say that the screen jumps, does it just do it in the browser or does it do it with all software, such as word processors? Does your WinXP have SP-3?

I'm looking at the pics now, but can't make out all the details. Are you using a USB port for your com port? How many USB ports do you have? Have you tried all of them?

Answered my own question. It appears that you have 3 USB ports, 2 on the right side and one on the left side.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

Try to turn down the sensitivity on the mouse touchpad. This happened to me. Every time I started to type, my thumb would slightly glance the touchpad and would start selecting things. Another thing is the touch-lock feature of the mouse. When you tap on the sensor, it holds the screen, and if you move the mouse, the whole screen moves with it. Hopefully this helps your problem a little bit.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

I would try to format if the driver updates don't help. If you don't have original restore cds or a windows disk download a copy of windows xp home and I will give you a legitimate cd key.
If the drivers update and a format doesn't fix your problem but your usb still works you can use USB to RS232 COM port converter $4 free shipping on ebay.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

USB to RS232 COM port converter awesome solution robbie1 I believe her usb still works however before she updated the audio driver she could talk but not hear then after the update vice versa hear but not talk very strange her I do belive her usb ports are working and that would be a great solution do you guys think this could be the motherboard dying her because if the com port is controlled by the cmos I dont really see her cmos getting corrupted she could try to flash them to factory defualt what do you guys think???

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

I would roll back the driver for the sound card as far back as it will let it go
Right click on my computer go to propertys then click on hardware, device manager, click the + next to sound, video and game controllers. right click each one under sound, video and game controllers and uninstall till they are all gone. If one doesn't have an option to uninstall move to the next on the list.
After you have uninstalled all the sound devices go to the top ot the page and click on action and then scan for hardwear changes. This will refresh your sound drivers.

Doesn't sound like your sound card is broken If one thing you do lets the mic work and one thin you do lets the ear work. Sound like it is just realy confused.

Re: HELP - Problems with my HP Laptop

The com port probly died cuz one of the pins came loose on the motherboard It is a common thing and I see it alot because of people plugging joystick into them and pulling the cord tight. I usually just sell em a USB to RS232 COM port converter and problem solved.
Unless they still have warenty then it is a new motherboard.

I have 4 ports, but the connections at the front for the headset only the headphone socket works, I can hear people but they cant hear me. Headset is working fine on my sons laptop. The ports wont work for USB to download bin files.
