Hey guys, I just got this receiver after switching from an archaic Captive Works.

I have a few quick questions and a comment ..

#1 - Do I need the PSK-8 upgrade in order to attach my receiver in HD? I've tried hooking it up to my set using a pair of component cables but unfortunately no image comes out. Using the regular composite cables however furnishes a picture.

Now I know without the HD upgrade using component cables would be counter productive as none of the signals I would be receiving would be in HD but my fear is I might have a bad box as far as that goes (cannot try in HDMI).

#2 - I only came up with about 28 channels. I'm using the PFTAHDMSW_090506HM file but I still do not get any channels (just the "piracy" channel). Now, I've got everything arranged well and I have the settings recommended throughout these threads but still no such luck.

#3 - What are the "Factory BIN" files for? Just curious

As for my comment, this is such a wonderful site - straight forward and unlike a few others it's easy to obtain information you're suching for and has great moderators.

Hello and welcome!

#1 - You don't need 8psk to output from your stb in HD. Only to receive and decode HD signals. Most newer HD boxes output in 1080i regardless of the input (upconversion) so the 8psk has nothing to do with the output to your TV only the input from the satellite dish.

#2 - You'll probably need to provide more info for help on this one. It's always a good idea to post all of your settings as it makes it much easier to sort these issues out. What kind of dish setup/diseqc do you have? It's likely not you bin that's the problem but some setting in your setup screen (ie your lnb settings)

#3 - Factory bins are to reset your STB to its "factory" settings like when it was new.

For the best Picture and audio use an HDMi cable , you need the 8 psk module to decode dish HD as for your channels post your antenna settings for all sats you are locked oonto kind of lnbs and any switches
