FTA Guide Viewsat Ultra Quirks and Troubleshooting Guide

Viewsat Ultra Quirks and Troubleshooting Guide

Viewsat Platinum Plat Lite Xtreme and Ultra Quirks and Solutions: Duplicate channels, Freezing, Missing Channels, etc...

All FTA receivers have quirks. Viewsats work great if you know all their quirks.

Here are some common quirks and the solutions...

Turn off "Auto TP" before Scanning or Editing channels.

Do not use the blindscan feature for Charlie or BEV satellites.

If you use a DP34, make sure that you have a Charlie, BEV, Coolsat, or other more powerful receiver connected to power the switch, or you may not get the necessary signal and quality.

After a factory reset (Factory Default in Menus), you need to reset all your antenna settings and time zone.

Viewsats do not work well with channel lists. An Autoscan is the best way to make sure your receiver gets all the channels without problems. An Autoscan is done by hitting the Red or F1 button after the satellite is setup in Antenna Setup. Be sure sort by SID is ON. Hit SAT button and hit Echostar Package or Nimiq Package.

If your receiver is rebooting itself, it is normally a problem with the channel database. Do a factory reset, setup all dish and LNB settings and rescan. If that doesn't cure the rebooting problem, load latest new bin file again. It is okay to write the same bin more than once. Some swear by writing the bin 3 times when you have this problem.

If you are having a lot of problems, do a factory reset, load latest factory bin file, then latest new bin file, shut off auto TP, setup satellite(s), rescan, let keys autoroll, picture should appear.

New bins have new satinfo files. No need to write this file when upgrading to a new bin. Same goes for the chaninfo file.

Opkey files will add the newest keys to your Viewsat and eliminate the 2 to 7 minutes it may take to autoroll for the first time. Creating one is not recommended if you are not sure how to do this.

If you cannot fix your Viewsat with the above fixes, clone the problematic receiver with another working Viewsat (same model) and it should repair the problems in your system. If you load a Platinum file to an Xtreme or an Xtreme file to a Platinum, you will get either a black and white or a messed up picture. Load the newest factory bin file, then the most current working bin file to correct.

Loader2 is still the most current loader.

Good Luck !!
